Parque Provincial Ischigualasto

Parque Provincial Ischigualasto

The Parque Provincial Ischigualasto was the first national park in which we planned to do a guided tour with our own cars.

The accessible altitude is between 1,200 and 1,300 meters above sea level and the park is approximately 62,916 hectares in size.

Due to its extreme aridity, the park is home to typical desert vegetation consisting of cacti and bushes.  It is also known as Valle de la Luna because the indigenous peoples believed that the moon went to sleep here.

There are many sculpture-like rock formations created by erosion, which have evocative names such as the submarine, the bowling alley, the mushroom and Aladdin's magic lamp, which collapsed in 1989.

The park has a modern car park where the camper vans are under cover and the benches are in the blazing sun. But at 1,200 metres it was only 31 degrees and no longer 37 degrees as before.

During the summer months it is said to reach 45 degrees here.

We set off at 17:00. 2 vehicles and the guide. We were lucky because he spoke good English and so I understood a bit more. We were on the road for 3 hours. At the beginning it was still bright sun, but the later it got the more pleasant and softer the light became.
