Krk - after 2 days

It started well on Tuesday. I left around 10:00 a.m. and treated myself to 2 buttered pretzels, the last ones for a long time

The journey in Switzerland was as usual. It was only when I got up to St Bernardino that I considerdd visiting the area for a few days in the future. But my goal was Lago Iseo and I decided to drive overland. So I got off the motorway in Como and then simply continued towards Bergamo on the country road. I should have trusted Google because I was struggling with traffic in Lombardy.

My first site at Lago Iseo was highly praised, but not really the burner for me. But I was able to practice driving a 7 m van through narrow Italian streets. But the 2nd parking space at Lido Iseo was great. Only the few dogs walking their owners entertained me at dinner and breakfast

What I've learned is that when it's cold (7 degrees in the morning at 8:00 am) it's better to pull out the second duvet or turn on the heater.

Since I didn't want to speed through northern Italy. I remember the excitement visiting Padua, Vinzenca and Bergamo on our 2021 tour and decided to take a look at Brescia and Verona. Brescia is nice but I wouldn't make a second stop here. Not because I hadn't found any usable parking spaces.

The Centro is small but well preserved and mixed in with contemporary architecture. But the 3 churches on the cathedral square of Brescia are exceptional. Number 1 is the New Cathedral, from 1825. Right next to it is the Winter Cathedral, the Duomo Vecchio from the 12th century. And next to it the Broletto, the 18th century government palace.

The pictures don't really convey it very well as the buildings are so close together, but there's more on Wikipedia.

I liked Verona better. First, there is a parking space for vans on the edge of the Centro (5 € for 4 hours and 10 € per day). At the beginning of April it was almost empty. You can also drain brown water and load fresh water.

On the other hand, even Verona is flooded with tourists, but it is one of the nicer Italian cities that I have seen before. One of the unexpected eye catchers are the guided tours. I gave up counting them. However they are helpful if you pick one and follow them. 😉

After filling up for €1.75, I headed towards Slovenia. The drive was pleasant and because I wanted to save on the tolls in Slovenia, I drove overland. Until today I was not aware how fast it is from Trieste to the Croatian border at Sapiane. I only noticed when I was standing at the border that I should have picked an earlier recommendation for staying over night. That's why I finally ended up on the island of Krk. Right on the water with a view of Rijeika.

Krk in April is slowly preparing for the season. No hustle and bustle among the workers and little car traffic. I just met my first tourists 😉

I spend my lunchtime at Čižići by the sea, alone. Was thinking about how it will be here in the high season?
