Our boat trip into the Danube Delta started at 6:00 in the morning. This was on request of the camp owner of Camping Lac Murighiol.
What a great idea. At 6:00 we saw at best 2 other boats on the Danube.
Together with 2 other guests we spent 4 hours on the Danube. First we started on little inflows into the Danube. It was fresh and got windy when our skipper got us to the greater lakes in the delta. This delta includes lakes, various ponds, streamlets and channels and has a surface of approx. 4'152 square km. The delta's fauna consists of reed and water lilies, yellow and white ones.
We saw ducks, all kind of herons, 1 kingfisher, different kind of pelicans, storks, cormorants and swans. I have most likely forgotten all the other birds that we got introduced to.
The arms of the Danube is a series of streamlets and channels. It is an environment rich in worms, molluscs, grubs, and sponges, with numerous species of fish, such as the carp, pike. We saw every now and then a fish but they are well hidden in the muddy water.
The lakes are connected and the boat cruises on narrow water roads in between from one to the next. Lake Isaac was the biggest one and our skipper increased the speed to get across.
On our way back to Murighiol harbor we saw even a sea eagle
