The hike to Creasta Cocoşului should be my last hike in Romania
I had previously heard about this nature reserve in the Maramures. And since I was at the Babou Maramures Camp in Breb, a hike to the Creasta Cocoşului on the Gutai mountains was an option
Creasta Cocoşului is called "Rooster's Crest" because the mountain resembles a gigantic cockscomb. The 50 hectare area around the ridge was declared a nature reserve in 1954 <Creasta Cocosului Reserve>.
There are several ways to get active here: hiking, climbing, paragliding, ski tours in winter and guided wildlife photography.
This time the weather was right, the profile was OK and there was no one on the trail at 08:30 in the morning. The hiking trails in Breb, and there are several, are perfectly signposted and so I followed the red M on a white background and then the C
At the top of the mountain I met members of the mountain rescue service who keep the paths on the ridge clear in the summer. Junipers and dwarf pines have to be trimmed. I learned that the largest area of the nature reserve is closed to vehicles, but there are also 4x4 passages in the west. Only the farmers and forest owners are allowed to drive around in the mountains.
