After a week in the Maremma with well over 30 Celsius almost every day and, worst of all, mosquitoes, I'm on my way now. The time with my friends in Ribolla was nice, I ate too much and didn't really move.
I had decided to drive to the Apuanian mountains via Volterra. The region around Volterra is picturesque and fully developed for tourism. Almost didn't get a parking space in Volterra because it was the Palio, a medieval festival held in many Tuscan towns.

I just walked around a bit, let the tourists push me through the narrow streets and waived the €12 entrance fee.

Volterra is also such a beautiful city with a wonderful view into the sorroundings

In the late afternoon I drove via Lucca and Castelnuovo di Garfagnana to a pitch in an old marble quarry. Sunday was hot, temperatures in Lucca around 35 degrees and only overnight did the temperature drop to 12 degrees and I slept deeper and longer than I had in a long time

My goal on the last days in Italy was the Col de la Lombarde with 2,350 meters altitude. Although there was a storm in the mountains, it didn't rain, but at 7:00 p.m. it had only 16 Celsius.
If that was already fresh, how surprised I was when my thermometer showed 5.8 degrees at 8:00 in the morning. I have put on long pants, socks and a sweater for the first time in weeks. I looked for a tour on Komoot and one started right at my pitch. I liked the name of the tour, Colli dei Morti <Hill of the Dead>. You will find on Komoot all pictures and the details of the tour. They proposed 4 passes, 4 lakes and almost 1000 m altitude over 12 km.
I was lazy and did 4 passes, 3 lakes and 600 m altitude over 9.5 km. However still beautiful and stretching enough
Various other hikes start at the Col de la Lombarde. So there is still a lot to discover. But I went over to France the next day.
